An opportunity is available to join the Land Management team in a very important role at the Greater Wellington Regional Council.  Based in the Wairarapa, you will primarily be involved in the delivery of sustainable land management planning and works programmes, with a focus on water quality and biodiversity in a variety of catchments.  The position is a 12 month fixed term, will be based in the Masterton office, and is to cover for a team member on parental leave. 

 

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • manage a portfolio of individual property Farm Environment Plans
  • prepare new Plans and review existing Plans
  • implement an annual works programme on behalf of landowners and communities
  • collaborate with communities to achieve improvements in water quality through reductions in sediment
  • provide support for the implementation of the riparian programme across the region
  • assist with the management of two community Catchment Schemes (12 months only)
  • foster relationships with other Council staff, landowners, schools, community groups and iwi
  • develop relationships with industry partners, environmental agencies, research providers, cultural and educational organisations
  • contribute to the development of relevant land management policy 

 

Your key attributes will include: 

  • knowledge, training and experience in soil conservation management and planning
  • an ability to plan, implement and monitor a range of sustainable land management programmes
  • experience in financial management within set budgets
  • an empathy and ability to build relationships in a farming setting with landowners and communities
  • innovation, and a desire to improve on current best management practice
  • an ability to function in,and contribute to a team environment
  • well organised and able to prioritise duties
  • highly effective oral and written communication skills
