This is a fixed term position covering parental leave for 12 months.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Environmental Policy department to lead our Whaitua Te Whanganui-a-Tara process for improving fresh and marine water quality in Hutt Valley and Wellington. You will help design this community based, collaborative process and oversee its delivery over the project's first twelve months.

This is an excellent opportunity to apply and hone your planning and policy, project management, and relationship management skills.


We are seeking an outstanding individual who has:

  • Skills and experience using innovative methods to lead complex projects
  • Skills and experience in collaborative decision-making at a governance level
  • An ability to analyse complex resource problems and to collectively develop innovative solutions
  • A strong grounding in the Resource Management Act and experience in policy and planning in New Zealand
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in policy, planning, management, economics, social science or environmental science
  • Skills in providing support, advice and mentoring
  • Clear, confident, adaptable communication skills - written and oral
  • An ability to be agile to changing demands
  • An understanding of Te Ao Māori, Tikanga Māori and Mātauranga Māori.
