Senior Events Advisor Greater Wellington

Full time  - 40 hours per week

Location: Just off Cuba Street, Wellington


Greater Wellington is on the hunt for a proactive Senior Events Advisor.

We are on the hunt for somebody to hit the ground running to help deliver a broad range of recreational events at our eight regional parks and three river trails this summer. Our events guru of the last 12 years is moving on, and as a result we are after an experienced, proactive and passionate senior events advisor to help us deliver and develop about forty events this summer.

After summer you have the opportunity to review the programme, and working with our parks and marketing teams, take the lead on developing our approach for what we deliver across our parks network for 2019/20.  It's not just summer events though, Council manage a planting programme over winter with a broad range of community groups, and we want to make these events bigger and better in the year ahead. There's also a range of events we support throughout the year and there is scope to grow this space.

This is the lead role in Greater Wellington's events team, and we are on the hunt for an experienced event manager who is a self-starter, practical, great with people and building relationships, results orientated, and not afraid to innovate.

This role is a key one within the Customer Engagement department. You'll be working closely with a great bunch of people, from our park rangers and planners, communications, marketing and social media teams, and our teams across the business that focus on land and water quality.

You'll have:

  • At least four years' relevant experience in event management (managing events from end to end)
  • Passion for the delivery of events in abundance
  • Incredible written and oral communication skills, a track record in the making complex information simple,
  • Excellent relationship management skills with people at events, stakeholders, contractors, sponsors and partners
  • Pretty good fitness, pack up and pack down at events across our regional parks network is required
  • A full driver's license – and be comfortable driving a van


You'll be:

  • Adaptable – no two days are the same, and event management is not a 9 – 5 job, weekend work will be required over the summer months
  • Flexible in where you work, visiting parks across our region is a regular requirement
  • Incredibly organised, time and project management is integral
  • A self-starter with follow through to the end, from event planning, delivery to event reports
  • Passionate for the environment and the outdoors, and creative in your approach to deliver events
  • Innovative – this is an opportunity to stamp your marks on Greater Wellington events programme
  • A team player willing to get stuck in that is hungry to keep learning, our parks team have some incredible stories to share.
