Project Engineer – Flood Protection

We have an exciting opportunity to deliver river management outcomes as part of the Flood Protection department, based out of our Masterton office. The role will initially focus on implementation of the recently completed Te Kauru Floodplain Management Plan, continuing the works programme for the Lower Wairarapa Valley Development Scheme, and supporting delivery of the Ruamahanga Whaitua Implementation Plan. 

 

The Flood Protection department has region-wide responsibility for Greater Wellington's river and flood risk management. The approach to flood risk management within Greater Wellington Regional Council focuses on creating space for the river and giving the river a voice.

 

This position sits in the Floodplain Management Plans (FMP) Implementation team to provide a high-level management and programming of technical, design, construction, regulatory and administrative input and expertise in the fields of river and floodplain management, flood mitigation and asset management.

 

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • A passion for rivers, riparian spaces, their natural form and processes
  • Interest in or experience working with our manawhenua partners, particularly Rangitāne o Wairarapa and Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa
  • A Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Natural  Resources) degree or an equivalent other tertiary qualification
  • At least three years aggregate experience in project management of investigation, design, and construction of flood protection or other river management related works. Professionals working towards a ‘chartered' or accredited status are encouraged to apply.
  • A high level of computer literacy. Familiarity with hydrology, hydraulic, GIS and project management related software is preferable
  • Understands the importance of achieving holistic, sustainable outcomes and natural resource management.
