About the role

Greater Wellington Regional Council (Greater Wellington) has a vacancy for a Media Advisor in the External Relations and Media team in the Customer Engagement Department.

As part of this team, your words and ideas will help people across the Wellington region understand exactly what it is we do here at Greater Wellington and why it matters to their everyday lives.   You'll work closely with your new team to identify and deliver stories, protect and enhance our reputation and build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

In return you'll get broad professional development and experience across everything the council does - helping progress your media, risk and reputational skills.

 

A bit about you
You'll know how to deal with media, you'll have strong writing skills, and you'll be calm under pressure.  You'll also have a great range of attributes that we'll discover over time but here are some of aspects you'll need to show straight off the bat:

  • Naturally, you'll be a skilled communicator and able to build rapport and create durable relationships
  • You'll have resilience to deal with those ambiguous situations with understanding and  do so with a good dose of humour and pragmatism
  • You'll be proud that you understand and practice tikanga Māori
  • You'll be skilled in influencing without authority; and gaining trust and credibility
  • You'll be politically savvy and able to adjust your personal style accordingly
  • You'll know how to balance proactive and reactive messaging and tackle issues from a customer point of view
  • And, you'll be focused on win/win situations and proud to take credit for your fine work.
