Greater Wellington Regional Council is looking for an experienced Biodiversity Advisor to join our team.


Fixed term for one year, the role is based in the Wellington office.


The role of the Biodiversity team is to provide a coordinated approach to delivering biodiversity outcomes to the Greater Wellington region, in line with statutory documents and the Department's Operational Plan.


In this position you will develop wetland restoration plans for individual sites and provide technical advice on wetland management and ecological restoration techniques to internal and external stakeholders. Other tasks, depending on experience, may also include planning and coordinating management at Key Native Ecosystem sites.


To be successful in this position you will have

  • An applicable tertiary qualification (ecology, or other relevant biological sciences).
  • Experience in ecological restoration and management of wetlands, including a sound understanding of biodiversity management approaches required to meet specified outcomes.
  • Experience in identifying indigenous flora and fauna especially in wetlands.
  • Ability to plan, implement and monitor programmes within budget.
  • Ability to write restoration management plans to a high standard.
  • Skills and experience in project management.
  • Experience in successfully working with and maintaining positive relationships with external parties such as community groups, iwi, contract workers and landowners.
  • Knowledge of the Resource Management Act and understanding of the council's role.
  • A full and current drivers' licence.
