We are looking for an investigator or compliance practitioner to join our Wellington based Environmental Protection team.

You will be part of a dynamic, outcomes-focused team who carry out inspections, investigations and assess compliance with the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA).  Your time will be divided between responding to incidents, monitoring compliance with resource consents, following up your own investigations and assisting with the investigations of other officers, carrying out follow-up education and advice, undertaking enforcement action as required, and relationship-building with our varied stakeholders and partners. 

 

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • Experience in investigations, compliance monitoring and enforcement
  • Excellent interpersonal, engagement and relationship management skills
  • An ability to remain focussed on outcomes rather than process
  • An understanding of how to influence and create behaviour change
  • Confidence in making informed decisions and applying sound reasoning and judgement
  • An eye for critical detail, risk analysis and an ability to present complex information orally and in writing

 

Key skills to demonstrate are:

  • A collaborative working style, with experience of sharing your ideas and expertise with others
  • A broad understanding of environmental issues especially in the public sector space
  • A track record of practical regulation, implementation of legislation and delivering to customers
  • The ability to get into the work quickly, manage a varied portfolio of work and work when required under pressure
