In this role you will be leading a small team with a large work programme that works across the organisation. This is a senior role and as such you will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and Councillors. You will help shape future plans for the organisation and the region, and you will ensure the organisation is held accountable by reporting back on progress. Your team will lead the development of Council's Long Term Plan, Annual Plan, Annual Report and you will have a lead role in other business improvement processes, like business planning and organisational strategy.


To be successful, you will ideally have some or all of the following skills and experience:

  • Programme and project management, or leading business improvement initiatives
  • Managing people, or mentoring and supporting others to succeed
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow through, while also maintaining a holistic and strategic view
  • Experience with corporate planning in the local government context, e.g. you may have previously led the development of a Long Term Plan or Annual Report
  • Demonstrated ability in advising and influencing senior leadership and politicians.


This team sits within the Strategic and Corporate Planning team which supports Greater Wellington to be a strategy-led organisation. The department is also responsible for climate change strategy, regional parks planning and the region's economic development activity.
