This is a technical leadership role supporting, maintaining and enhancing GW's portfolio of Applications. These include solutions for Public Transport, Land Management, Environmental and Climate, Health & Safety, financial services and intranet/web site management.

We need someone who can bring the GW application roadmap to life, providing technical leadership around support, delivery and the application of DevOps principles.

You will be involved in all stages of the Application Lifecycle, supporting and maintaining services, delivering new workflow and automation solutions and working to implement technical best practice around application integration.

You will enjoy working in an agile team, collaborating across business and ICT to ensure that applications meet business requirements. The ability to communicate your passion for DevOps principles and its applicability to GW is essential.

About the role

The DevOps Specialist role is part of the recently created ICT Applications Team. As a member of the applications development team, the DevOps Specialist collaborates with software developers, system operators and other IT teams between software development, testing and operations as they design, plan and test. They also manage and undertake end to end small enhancements and changes to GW's in-house application systems. This includes resolving issues and recommending enhancements, when necessary.

To be successful in the role you will enjoy delivering business solutions to deadlines and ensuring that application development utilises the most appropriate technology and adheres to agreed standards. You will also ensure that any improvements to applications are identified to reduce recurring applications issues requiring support. You understand the importance of providing a customer centric view of the services provided by ICT and facilitating changes in our environment to ensure this is attained. 

Skills and experience required

  • 2-3 years hands on experience in workflow and automation solutions, web applications and services, frameworks and programming languages. Experience may include any of the following: JavaScript, Power Automate, Technology One, .NET, PHP, SQL, and scripting.
  • Experience of system support, design, development, testing and implementation methodologies, including database and technical architecture concepts, Cloud setup and configuration, System Integration and Agile and/or Lean principles.
  • Demonstrable experience in application configuration, networking security, databases and cloud systems.
  • Demonstrable experience of collaborating with developers and sysadmins to ensure new environments meet requirements and conform to best practices.
