The Wellington Transport Analytics Unit is looking for a Senior Transport Modeller-Analyst to join their growing team and deliver transport modelling and analytical excellence for regional stakeholders.

Wellington Transport Analytics Unit

The Wellington Transport Analytics Unit was established one year ago as a centre of excellence for transport analytics and modelling in the Wellington Region.

The Unit has a key role to play in supporting transport projects in the Wellington Region by delivering high quality modelling and advice to inform decision making and deliver positive outcomes for the region,  and is looking to expand capability and capacity by recruiting a Senior Transport Modeller-Analyst.

The Unit is housed within Greater Wellington Regional Council, supported by regional partners Waka Kotahi, Hutt City Council and Porirua City Council and works across a large number of regionally significant partner projects.

Your new role

This role will have no shortage of variety, with support every step of the way as you develop as a professional!

You will be involved in the development and operation of strategic transport models, public transport models, local traffic models and cycle models, alongside using transport data to draw out insights to provide the evidence base to support planning.

You will be required to think laterally, coming up with innovative solutions to technical challenges, and will be part of multi-stakeholder teams delivering transport modelling and analytical outputs to develop business cases and justify investment decisions.

The development and assessment of emissions and vehicle kilometres travelled (VKT) reduction strategies will be a big part of the Unit work programme moving forward, and we will be looking for you to take a lead role and drive innovation in this area.

As a senior level professional we will be looking for you to step up and provide advice and solutions to a range of internal and external stakeholders, and also help mentor staff and contribute to continuous improvement within the team and across the sector

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • A depth and breadth of experience in transport modelling, transport planning or analytics
  • Experience in relevant software packages for example EMME, AIMSUN, or similar
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to summarise complex technical information for a non-technical audience
  • The ability to think laterally and innovatively to solve problems and deliver solutions
  • A passion and enthusiasm to inspire others
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining strong professional and working relationships

What you'll get in return

This is an excellent role for someone who wants to be at the centre of key transport projects in the Wellington Region and wants to broaden their knowledge and skills in the transport sector.

The team is all about collaboration, supporting each other, delivering continuous improvement and growing people. A great work environment is offered in our new offices on Cuba Street, with opportunities to develop your technical and leadership competencies along with improving your te reo and tikanga Maori skills.

Oh, and we also have great food, coffee and shopping on our doorstep!

Our benefits include:
