An opportunity is available to join the Land Management team in a very important role at the Greater Wellington Regional Council. Based in the Masterton office, you will primarily be involved in the co-ordination of the works programme for the department and manage the Works Supervisors and contract labour force.

 

Your key responsibilities will be to:

 

  • Manage the contract labour force and their supervision for delivery of the departments work programme
  • Liaise between Akura Nursery, department staff and contractors
  • Take a lead role in catchment scheme matters – planning to auditing
  • Oversee the management of the departments fleet
  • Assist with forestry related matters both internally and externally
  • Foster relationships with other Council staff, landowners, community groups and iwi
  • Develop relationships with industry partners, environmental agencies, research providers, cultural and educational organisations
  • Contribute to the development of relevant land management policy

 

Your key attributes will include:

 

  • Knowledge, training and experience in forestry, engineering or agriculture
  • An ability to plan, implement and monitor a range of sustainable land management programmes
  • Experience in financial management within set budgets
  • An empathy and ability to build relationships
  • Innovation, and a desire to improve on current best management practice
  • An ability to function in, and contribute to a team environment
  • Well organised and able to prioritise duties
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills
