Predicting Droughts in Wellington's Water Supply Catchments Using the Southern Oscillation Index: Part II
Search in document library
In March 1996 a scoping study exploring the relationship between the
Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) and stream flows in Wellingtons water
supply catchments was completed.
A relationship was established, and it was concluded that it is possible to
issue forecasts up to one season ahead.
Based on the scoping study findings, recommendations for future work
and more comprehensive analyses were made. This report presents this
further work. For a full explanation of the SOI, data sources and statistical
techniques employed, the scoping study should be consulted.
